St. Patrick's Day - Best FREE Resources on the Web

There's a LOT of great stuff available for St. Patrick's Day!! I didn't add everything I found but I added a few Pinterest boards at the bottom with a bunch of fun stuff as well.

I'm getting this out SO MUCH later than planned (I sorta had my daughter's wedding to plan and stuff;) But you can always save these to your computer for next year -- that way you don't loose track of all this greatness. Because I'm so absent minded, I send myself alerts on my phone to remind myself of the file on my computer I saved for something later... is that completely insane? I hope not! I just can't keep track of it all!! Haha!

First, here's a little about St. Patrick. There's a lot more out there, so don't limit yourselves :)

Freebie: 9/11 ~ Never Forget Notebooking Pages

Includes 1 cover page and 30 basic-lined notebooking pages.

We plan to take some time this week and discuss and learn more about some of the events that took place 11 years ago today. My youngest kids were only 2 and 5 at that time but I remember it like it was yesterday. I was making breakfast while my husband was out feeding the animals with our children. I had the news turned on in the family room and saw the first plane crash into the first Trade Center. I immediately ran out and got my husband. We knew in our hearts it wasn't an accident and when we saw the second plane crash our first thoughts were confirmed. This is an important time in our country's history and I'm sure we can all remember where we were or what we were doing when that fatal attack happened on our country's soil. I feel it's my duty to pass these memories on to my children.

When my youngest children were very young, I only told them of much of the heroism that took place and a few other details. But I didn't want to worry their little minds with fear of this happening again. But now that they are older, I feel it's time for them to see more of what happened that day. While I'm choosing to teach my kids more about 9/11 than you may choose to, the pages are designed and appropriate for any age child.

Below are a few resources I found that you could use alongside these pages. My children are older, so please review the resources below to make sure they would be appropriate for your children as some of the material is very graphic.

Happy Easter

Today is Easter and it's been quite an emotional day for me. I've spent a lot of time reflecting on my Savior and his great and infinite atonement. I'm humbled by his sacrifice for me and all who have and will ever live. My heart is full of gratitude for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

"I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosever liveth and believeth in me shall never die."
John 11:25-26

Toilet Paper Pumpkins

I'm sure many of you have seen this idea before.  I've seen them all over the internet, so I can't give just one person credit.  We made these during literature today.  We're listening to Johnny Tremain and after I turned it on, I got up and got everything out for the project.  My kids watched me make one and then both joined in.  We made 8 of them.  We would have made more, but that was all the fat quarters I had in Fall colors.

Here's what we used for this project (the list below makes one).

  1. Full roll of toilet paper (not just the tube)
  2. 1 fat quarter in a Fall color
  3. leaf cut out of felt (here is the pattern I used... After cutting we cut them all out I thought we could have bought some silk fall leaves and that would have worked great too, but I wanted to use things I had around the house).
  4. 2 green pipe cleaner
  5. one brown lunch bag
First, we printed out the leaf pattern, traced it onto the felt and cut them out.  Next, we pulled the fat quarter up over the toilet paper roll and stuffed it down the tube.  Then, we cut off both ends off the lunch bags and twisted them up to look like a stem.  Next, we rapped the leaf around the base of the stem with the ends of the pipe cleaners and twisted the pipe cleaners around a pencil to look like vines.  Last, we stuffed the stem into the top of the pumpkin.

This was a really easy, fun and a super fast activity to do with the kids.  It took us about 15 minutes to make them all.   I think they're pretty cute!
